Grieve as you need to. Staying sane should always be Goal 1. You can't get to the other goals if you're not sufficiently healthy.
We're all exhausted now thinking about the next four years of manufactured drama, the unnecessary chaos, an angry toddler's whim disrupting norm, lives, markets, alliances...
Stay sane. Stay safe.
Trump couldn't care less.
Trump may be unique in his incapacity to care about the collective, to care about the future. To care about anything other than his own immediate "win". He's nearing the end of his life; "long term" is not a thing for him, if it ever was.
All who displace him will be looking towards the future - and no future path is possible without responsibility and a desire for inclusion. There is hope beyond Trump.
While It may not immediately be "liberal", it is likely to be sane.
Vance (who is a KFC Bucket away from the presidency) may be more broadly calculating than Trump, but he is not feared like Trump, nor will he be able to wield power like Trump. The GOP will not bend the knee to Vance, and maybe they can return to some semblance of normalcy.
They at least will not be willing to burn it all to the ground - which I think is our greatest fear with Trump. He is unique in his inability to care. It's his carelessness that is most terrifying and most heartbreaking.
Trump too will pass. We just need to hold it together until then.
